Statement on Resolution 26-210
“I introduced this amendment because taxpayer-funded constituent communications should never be used, or appear to be used, for campaign purposes. I have followed the 60-day blackout practice throughout my public service, including when the Council did not formally require it, and even when other reporting incorrectly suggested I hadn’t.
With the issue now under public discussion and the Ethics Commission considering a similar policy, I believe the Council should act now. This amendment establishes a clear, consistent rule for every member and reinforces the line between public service and campaigning.” – Council Chair Tommy Waters
