December 2025 Message from the Council Chair
Aloha mai kākou,
As we close another memorable year together, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the people who make our community shine. From Hawaiʻi Kai to Waikīkī and beyond, your kindness, aloha, and community spirit continue to make our district and our island such a special place to call home.
I’m very grateful to my district office team for working so hard every day to reflect your voices in city government, and uplift your thoughts and concerns to actions and results. And I am so thankful to those who come alongside to join us in our work in making O‘ahu a better place to live, work and play.
So far this year, we:
Received 1,880 Office Phone Calls
Submitted 540 Constituent Requests for Investigation and Service (RISRs)
Introduced 280 Bills & Resolutions
Attended roughly 750 Events & Meetings
And together, we accomplished some amazing things, including:
Purchased lands to protect Paikō Ridge in Kuli‘ou‘ou Valley
Alleviated congestion in Waikīkī through reduction of street festivals and parades
Preserved, through Land Use Ordinance, the residential feel of neighborhoods from Hawai‘i Kai to Kaimukī
Increased homeowner exemptions to reduce residential property taxes
Secured $1M for Kūhiō Beach renovations and refresh
We’ve worked so hard together, and I hope you are able to rest and rejuvenate in anticipation of the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in 2026. From my family to yours, e hoʻopomaikaiʻia ʻoe e nā makana kamahaʻo o keia kau, may the wondrous gifts of the season be yours.
With aloha,
Tommy
