Honolulu City Council Statement on The Passing of Colleen Hanabusa

Hawai‘i mourns the loss of Colleen Hanabusa, one of its most revered leaders. Her unwavering dedication to serving the people of Hawaiʻi and our nation was marked by incredible strength, intelligence, and a profound sense of responsibility to her community.
Colleen was not just a leader; she was an inspiring figure who showed countless young women and girls the power of determination and service. Her presence in public life was a beacon of hope and possibility.
As Chair of the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation Board, she played a crucial role in the Honolulu Skyline project, guiding one of the most significant infrastructure efforts in Oʻahu’s history. Her legacy will continue to resonate in the lives she touched and the community she loved.
On behalf of the Honolulu City Council, we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of serving alongside her. We are grateful for her contributions, and her legacy will always be remembered.
